Across the Sea

Written by Scott DL

I’ll start at the beginning
show you how it came to be
The girl that made my heart take flight
didn’t feel that way toward me

I did what I could to move forward
find my own place in the sun
Still I was left there to wonder
about the heart I never won

My love across the ocean
sailed away from me
All I have is a photograph
and a faded memory

Memories are a blessing
and a two-edged sword
There to bring you comfort
Sometimes they just hurt more

We never get the chance to choose
which one it will be
They show up uninvited
and then refuse to leave

My love across the ocean
is somewhere out at sea
All I have is a photograph
and a faded memory

Life can bring you twists and turns
Leave you upside down
Just when it seems hope is lost
Suddenly it’s found

The passing years collected
like driftwood on the shore
Each one moving faster
than the one before

Something made me reach out
Softly call your name
I waited for your answer
and finally it came

My love across the ocean
is calling out to me
I’ll be here when you reach the shore
My love across the sea
